THE ESC OF BULGARIA CELEBRATES ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY WITH AN EUROPEAN CIVIL DEBATE: “STRONGER EUROPE FOR CITIZENS”

The Economic and Social Council /ESC/ of Bulgaria will celebrate ten years since its establishment on 2nd December 2013 /Monday/ at 2.00 pm in Hall “Sredets” of Sheraton Sofia Hotel Balkan and will bestow the Honorary Award of the ESC for Contribution to the Development of Organised Civil Society in Bulgaria.

Official guests of the event are the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, the President of the European Economic and Social Committee /EESC/ Mr. Henri Malosse, the Vice-President of the 42nd National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Aliosman Imamov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Daniela Bobeva and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Kristian Vigenin.

On 10th December 2003, Bulgaria became the first country among the twelve new Member States of the European Union to establish an Economic and Social Council following the model of the European Economic and Social Committee.

Over the past decade the Bulgarian ESC has earned its place among the leading councils in the European Union, whose experience and achievements are an example of good practice among the national councils of the Member States for development and affirmation of the model of organised civil society.

The assessments given to Bulgaria and its Economic and Social Council from the European Economic and Social Committee and its Presidents are really valuable for us. Evidence for this are the visits to our country of all the Presidents of the EESC for the period 2002 -2012, and the current President of the EESC Mr. Malosse and the President of Group III “Various Interestes” in the EESC Mr. Luca Jahier will attend the upcoming event.

After the first solemn part will be held an European civil debate: “Stronger Europe for Citizens". In it will participate members of the ESC, members of Parliament, representatives of the government, of the state and public institutions, NGOs, academics, experts and guests. Welcoming statements will be made by Mr. Bojidar Danev, member of the Bulgarian ESC, Executive Chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Association and Mr. Luca Jahier, President of Group III “Various Interestes” in the EESC.
