THE ESC IS ORGANISING A ROUND TABLE ON THE “OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE RHODOPE REGION BY USING THE EUROPEAN STRUCTURAL AND INVESTMENT FUNDS AND INSTRUMENTS OF CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION WITH GREECE

On 13 May at 9.00 pm in the town of Smolyan, in the hall of “Arexim” Ltd. a round table on the “Opportunities for development of the Rhodope region by using the European structural and investment funds and instruments of cross-border cooperation with Greece” will be hold. The event is organised by the Economic and Social Council (ESC) of the Republic of Bulgaria with the support of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), and special participation will have the EESC President Henri Malosse.

In the regional meeting will take part Dora Yankova – Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the parliamentary friendship group with Greece, the Regional Governor of Region Smolyan dipl.eng. Dimitar Krastanov, the ESC President Prof. Lalko Dulevski, mayors and representatives of 28 municipalities, members of the Rhodope Tourism Association, social partners in the region, NGOs and the media.

Within the forum concrete practical opportunities for the development of the region will be presented as well as opportunities for partnership between representatives of local authorities, business and NGOs.

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
