The President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Georges Dassis will visit Bulgaria on 14-15 January. The visit is on the invitation of the President of the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council (ESC) Prof. Lalko Dulevski.

This is the first official visit of Georges Dassis on the invitation of a national Council of an EU Member State. Georges Dassis was elected as a President of the EESC in October last year. He is heading the Committee as a representative of the EESC Group II - Employees.

The programme of the visit includes a meeting with the President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva and Deputy Prime Minister for Demographic and Social Policy and Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Kalfin. Also the EESC President will visit the Bulgarian National Bank and University of National and World Economy.

At the beginning of his visit in Sofia, the EESC President will meet with the members of the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council and will discuss the ESC 12-year experience in the development of civil dialogue. The Economic and Social Council will bestow Georges Dassis Honorary Award of the Council for Contribution to the Development of Organised Civil Society.

  • Founder member of the Labour Institute of the GSEE (1990) and secretary for international relations
  • President of the ECO section of the EESC from 2004 to 2008
  • President of the Workers' Group of the EESC from 2008 to 2015
