THE EESC AND ESC’S CONFERENCE: WE ARE SHOCKED BY THE TRAGEDY IN BRUSSELS

The conference, which was discussing the “European Energy Union – Impact and Consequences for Civil Society in Bulgaria”, stopped its work and paid a minute tribute to the victims in the series of bombings in Brussels. The organizers of the International Conference Pierre Jean Coulon - President of TEN Section at the European Economic and Social Committee and Prof. Lalko Dulevski - President of the Economic and Social Council of Bulgaria expressed their condolences to the relatives of the victims. We live in that sort of a world that we all need solidarity, Prof. Dulevski said. Mr. Coulon stressed that the force is always on the side of the good people who have good thoughts. Both of them also noted that at the beginning of the International Conference all participants agreed that Europe should all be united in order to resist the difficulties.

The conference was attended by the Deputy Minister of Energy Nikolay Nikolov, who presented the policy of Bulgaria for achieving a common European objective for Energy Union. He outlined in details the main directions in which the Bulgarian government and the Ministry of Energy is working: interconnection gas point Greece - Bulgaria, which will start commercial exploitation in mid-2018; interconnection gas point with Turkey, which will provide access to gas from Azerbaijan and which has received support of 190 000 euros for pre-investment study under the Connecting Europe Facility; about the beginning of the liberalization in Bulgaria and the activity of the National Energy Exchange; about the studies of Bulgaria’s own extraction in the Black Sea shelf.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
