CONSULTATIONS ABOUT VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN ESC

ESC invited representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, vocational training centres, experts, school principals and teachers to consult with them the draft resolution "Possible directions for the development of the vocational education and training system in Bulgaria".

Participants in the discussion supported ESC's draft act and made suggestions to complement the text of the document. The common position of the participants in the consultation was that vocational education and training needs a new regulatory base, renewed facilities, incentives for development, young and educated staff, and modern teaching aids.

Teachers expressed the view that it is necessary for the state to encourage businesses that engage in apprenticeships and student practices. They also urged local authorities to make their commitments to the VET system more clearly and to pay more attention.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science said they are open to proposals and support ESC's draft resolution.

ESC Plenary Session on 9 June 2017 discussed an adopted the draft document together with the additions made during the consultation.
