STUDENTS FROM THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL IN FINANCE AND BUSINESS (NHSFB): YOU GAVE US THE BEGINNING, WE WILL ADD ON THE FUTURE

For another year the ESC met with students in their 9th and 11th year of schooling from the National High School in Finance and Business (NHSFB), who are trained through the dual system on vocational track "Economist" and specialism "Commerce". More than 50 students conversed with the ESC President Prof. Dr. Lalko Dulevski, with Yanka Takeva, member of the ESC and chairperson of the Bulgarian Union of Teachers, and with the director of the High School Maya Gesheva, the prospects for professional realization in training through work.

In their addresses Yanka Takeva and Prof. Dulevski drew the attention of young people to the importance of dual training that started three years ago in Bulgaria and was piloted in the NHSFB for 26 students who now are in their eleventh grade and through which they gained practical experience two days a week and received remuneration for their work.

The young people worked in three groups and formulated suggestions and positions on their motives for choosing a vocational school, their views on improvements in work-based learning, and on their future professional realization.

According to NHSFB students, the positive aspects of the new dual training is that they graduate with a profession, combine theory and practice, learn to work in a real professional setting with employment contract and recognized work experience. They proposed to optimize the curricula for the main subjects of their specialty, and in a separate textbook to combine different humanities and natural sciences. The eleventh graders offered to begin with practical training as early as in their 9th year, as part of the specialized disciplines to be taught on the ground.

Students unanimously agreed that they would continue to study in higher education institutions after graduation, with most of them intending to study in Bulgaria. Some of those who intend to continue their studies abroad said they would return to work and live in their homeland.

Participants in the meeting appreciated secondary education at NHSFB as a good start of knowledge and professional development. They turned to their headmaster, saying, "You gave us the beginning, we will add on the future."

NHSFB Director Maya Gesheva thanked ESC for their open attitude in the talks that were held with high school students for another year on the important aspects of professional realization and career guidance.

At the end of the meeting Prof. Dulevski gave awards to the teams that participated in the meeting-discussion.
