THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL PRESENTED A PACKAGE OF PROPOSALS IN THE FIELD OF ECONOMY, LABOUR MARKET AND SOCIAL SECURITY

On the held on March 29, 2010 Plenary Session the Economic and Social Council adopted a package of three opinions that bring together the positions of the organised civil society on the most current and key issues facing our country in short- and long- term. These are the challenges facing the Bulgarian economy, the labor market and the social security and protection. The three documents were presented to journalists at a press conference on March 30, 2010.

The opinions contain both findings on the major trends in these three areas and the Economic and Social Council’s concrete proposals for appropriate policies and actions which need to be undertaken.

Thus, the Economic and Social Council fulfills its traditional constructive role in developing the current economic and social policies of the country from the legislative and executive powers.

With the adopted opinions the ESC makes a reply to the expressed willingness in the  Council of Ministers’s decision from March 10, 2010 for closer cooperation with the ESC in drawing up the Bulgarian position for the future strategy “EU – 2020”.

MISSION

“THE CIVIL PARLIAMENT” OF BULGARIA

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
