The President of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) Prof. Lalko Dulevski and the Vice Presidents of the ESC Dr. Konstantin Trenchev, Mr. Vasil Velev and Prof. Neno Pavlov had meeting the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Rosen Plevneliev.

At the meeting were discussed several issues of strategic importance for the development of Bulgaria. The President of the Republic presented his vision for the national priorities stipulated in the Bulgarian National Development Programme until 2020.

In his turn Prof. Dulevski acquainted the President with the ESC work as well as with the specific events and activities that the Council planned to carry out until the end of this year.

The meeting outlined the opportunities for the ESC to cooperate with the presidential institution. The ESC representatives stressed the importance of the role of the consultative process and the participation of the civil society organisations in the development and adoption of the Bulgarian National Development Strategy.

Both sides expressed willingness and consent to organise joint initiatives and forums with the participation of European partners.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
