The Annual Activity Report for 2017 of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) was discussed yesterday by the Parliamentary Committee on Labour, Social Policy and Demography. Thus, the requirement of the Economic and Social Council Act that every year the activity report should be examined by the members of the Bulgarian National Assembly in that committee - was fulfilled.

An action plan focusing on community-led local development, young people and social inclusion was at the heart of the EESC conference on supporting and integrating EU vulnerable regions and people in the EU organised in Sofia on 6 March 2018.

There is a need to strike a balance in protecting consumers' rights and the responsibilities of digital service providers at the European level. By now consumer rights in the context of the digitization of the economy have been rather underestimated at the expense of the development of the digital economy. This is the common position reached by the participants in the discussion "Digital Economy: Benefits for Consumers" organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)and the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council(ESC).

On 20 March the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) together with the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council will host its 20th European Consumer Day. The event, which will take place in Sofia this year, will focus on the theme: The digital economy: what deal for consumers?

In the adopted opinion on "The European Pillar of Social Rights and the Role of Organized Civil Society" the Economic and Social Council calls on the state institutions to exercise the full influence and authority of the EU Presidency and to focus the talks during the tripartite social summit and the European Council at the end of March this year by formulating concrete proposals to launch the process of building a European action plan with guidelines and a roadmap for implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) at the European level as well as at the level of individual Member States.

MISSION

“THE CIVIL PARLIAMENT” OF BULGARIA

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
