The Economic and Social Council adopted an Opinion on the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on a Pan-European Personal Pension Product (PEPP) COM/ 2017/343 final". The idea of ​​the proposal is to create a pan-European product for personal retirement provision for all Member States and thus promote savings for old age by ensuring long-term sustainable income for older people. ESC shares the view that it is necessary to further develop existing national supplementary pension schemes with new products and notes that EP's proposal will primarily facilitate mobile workers, self-employed workers and workers in different Member States.

A condolence letter on the death of Bozhidar Danev was sent, on behalf of the Economic and Social Council, by Lalko Dulevski. The letter addressed to the Bulgarian Industrial Association and to the relatives reads:

"We cannot believe that such an emblematic figure for the public life of Bulgaria has passed away. We lost a friend who showed humanity, finesse and thought in every situation.

More than 100 civil society representatives adopted their contribution to the EU-Western Balkans Heads of State Summit in Sofia

The participants at the high level conference, which took place on 15 May, were convinced that the enlargement of the EU, and in particular the spread of its democratic values and legal standards to the Western Balkan region, was in the interest of both the Western Balkan countries and the EU. Promoting EU values in the region guarantees security and stability, enhances social and economic development, as well as democracy and the rule of law in these countries which in turn means stability and security for the EU.

A conference on the Economic and Social Cohesion in the Western Balkans will bring together employers, trade unions and civil society organizations with other interests in Sofia on 15 May /Tuesday/ at Marinela Hotel at 9.00 pm. The conference is organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX), with the support of the Bulgarian Presidency and the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council (ESC).

MISSION

“THE CIVIL PARLIAMENT” OF BULGARIA

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
