Committees

Standing committees shall be established within the Economic and Social Council.

The members of the standing committees shall be members of the Council. The plenary, on a proposal from the groups represented on the council, elects the chairpersons and members of the standing committees. The term of office of the standing committees shall be until the end of the Council’s term of office. During its term of office, the plenary session may make changes to the type, number and composition of standing committees.

The Standing Committees shall be composed of 6 members, including the Chairperson. In determining the composition of the committees, the representation of the groups in the council shall be followed. Each member of the Board may be elected to serve on no more than two standing committees. The members of the committees shall participate in their meetings in person and may not authorise others to do so. Each member may be elected chair of only one standing committee.

Standing Committees draft opinions and analyses at ESC. In carrying out their activities, they are assisted by experts from the Council’s administration and by external experts.
